Character Design
Hutt Central School's commitment to Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) is core to the school.
They needed a character or persona to capture these values in a beloved way that kids of many ages and cultures could connect and engage with. We created a character that everyone at Hutt Central could relate to.
I created a simple, naive character that kids could listen to, look up to, play and learn with. Pōro is an abstracted ball that is for everyone. Pōro isn’t culture/gender/age specific, but is more an essence of what Hutt Central School is – inclusive, fun and nurturing. Pōro has been very well received at Hutt Central School, with large murals to posters, to life size Pōro’s being seen bouncing around the grounds.
