Trademe Motors

Data storytelling productised report

A fast-turnaround project designing a monthly, data-driven insights report for NZ auto dealers—turning complex analytics into clear, actionable visual storytelling.

My role

As the product designer, I was responsible for turning vehicle market data into a clear, engaging, and repeatable monthly report for NZ auto dealers. I collaborated with a data scientist and Trademe Motors to understand user needs and create a design that would be genuinely useful and easy to update each month.

Overview

Dealers had access to lots of data but lacked a simple, visual tool to help them make fast, informed decisions. This report was designed to fill that gap—highlighting trends like fast-selling models, price drops, and stock pressure. The final product needed to be both visually appealing and structured in a way that made it easy to update with new data every month.

Approach

Empathise & Define
I worked with the client and data scientist to understand what insights mattered most to dealers—speed to sell, pricing trends, and inventory movement.

Ideate
Together we mapped out how to best structure the information and what visuals would support quick decision-making.

Collaborative Workshops
Facilitated a content and user flow workshop with key stakeholders—including users with dementia, caregivers, and internal staff—to co-create a structure that made sense for everyone.

Prototype
I designed an initial insights page and cover to get early feedback from Trademe Motors.

Design & Refine
Based on that feedback, I refined the layout, expanded the full suite of pages, and aligned the design with Trademe’s supplied brand guidelines.
